Summary

awaymode runs entirely on your iPhone. There is no server. There are no user accounts. There is no analytics SDK and no third-party tracking. The App Store privacy nutrition label for awaymode is Data Not Collected, and the rest of this page spells out what that means in practice.

Data stored on your device

awaymode keeps a small amount of information locally so the app can do its job. Apple's SwiftData persists it inside the app's sandbox; nothing in this section is transmitted off your device by awaymode.

  • Session history. Start time, planned length, actual length, completion status, and the mode of each focus session.
  • Focus modes. The modes you create or customise: name, duration, cycle count, break length, icon, strict toggle, and the Screen Time selection attached to each.
  • App preferences. Default mode, theme, notification toggles, onboarding completion, and similar local settings.
  • Screen Time activity tokens. When you select apps or categories to shield, iOS returns opaque tokens that reference your selection. awaymode stores these tokens so it can re-apply your selection at the start of each session. The tokens are anonymised by Apple. We can't read app names or device identifiers from them, and they only function on the device that issued them.

Removing awaymode from your iPhone deletes everything above. There is no copy on an awaymode server because there is no awaymode server.

Data not collected

awaymode does not collect, transmit, or have access to:

  • Your name, email address, phone number, or any account credentials.
  • Device identifiers, advertising identifiers, IDFA, or fingerprint data.
  • Usage analytics, telemetry, crash reports containing your content, or session metrics.
  • Location, IP address, contacts, calendar, photos, microphone, or camera.
  • The list of apps installed on your device.
  • The contents of any app or category you have asked awaymode to shield.

Apple frameworks used

awaymode is built from the Apple SDK. We don't embed any third-party analytics, advertising, attribution, or experimentation libraries. The Apple frameworks awaymode interacts with, and the data each one touches:

  • FamilyControls / ManagedSettings / DeviceActivity. Apple's Screen Time framework, used to apply and lift the app shield. Selection tokens are stored on-device.
  • StoreKit 2. Apple's in-app purchase framework. Apple processes payment; awaymode receives a local receipt confirming what you bought.
  • HealthKit. Only if you opt in. awaymode writes completed sessions as Mindful Minutes. awaymode never reads from Health.
  • UserNotifications. Used to schedule local notifications at session end and at each phase boundary in a chained mode. No server is involved.
  • WidgetKit and ActivityKit. Power the Home Screen widgets, Lock Screen widgets, and Live Activities. They read state from the same on-device store as the main app.
  • App Intents. Power Siri and Shortcuts integration. Each invocation runs locally.

Apple Health

If you turn on the Health toggle in awaymode's settings, completed focus sessions are written to Apple Health as Mindful Minutes. This is a one-way write: awaymode writes; awaymode does not read from Health. The permission is requested through the standard iOS dialog and can be revoked at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → awaymode. Revoking has no effect on awaymode's other features.

Purchases

awaymode offers an optional Pro upgrade through Apple's in-app purchase system. Apple processes the payment and returns an opaque receipt to your device confirming what you bought. awaymode reads this receipt on-device to unlock paid features. The receipt does not contain your name, email, payment information, or any other personal identifier.

Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel any time in Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. awaymode cannot see, manage, or refund your subscription state directly; Apple handles all of it. For refunds, visit reportaproblem.apple.com.

Children

awaymode is rated 4+ on the App Store. Because awaymode collects no personal information from any user, it complies with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) by default. We don't knowingly collect data from children because we don't collect data from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects how data is handled, the updated version will appear on this page with a new last updated date, and the relevant app release notes will flag the change. Because we don't run an email list, this page is the only place we can publish updates.
